Bali born artist Salvita Salim De Corte explores the ways memory, inheritance, and imagination shape our understanding of self. Working with acrylic and natural pigments on raw cotton canvas, she creates paintings that exist between presence and absence. Starting with a figure or discovering one through painting, the image is never entirely predetermined. Drawing from fragments of family history that span Indonesia, India, and Germany, she embraces ambiguity, allowing personal and ancestral narratives to coexist within the same space. Salvita treats memory as something fluid, where remembered moments, emotions, and imagined ones can exist together. Her paintings become spaces where these pieces gather, revealing the ways the past continues to inhabit the body and the present.
