ABOUT THE WORK

“A figure is walking, with her shadow falling ahead of her. I was thinking about shadows and what they might represent, something that grows bigger in the light, something that follows and protects, a reflection of ourselves. The figure appears alone, but she is not truly alone. The shadow becomes a companion, always present. The frame is meant to extend the world outside the canvas, the space of the painting continues beyond its edges. The curves represented clouds swaying in the wind. I began the painting by staining the raw canvas with tea. The organic marks remain visible on the surface, becoming part of the work and giving it a sense of time and natural presence.” - Salvita De Corte
