ABOUT THE ARTIST

Black and white portrait of a young man with dark hair, mustache, and goatee, wearing a black T-shirt, standing against a plain wall with a grid pattern.

Abyu Amanda Aldi (b. 1998) was born in Panyabungan, North Sumatra. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of Arts in Yogyakarta. In his artistic practice, Abyu is often influenced by various issues in his surroundings. These issues have their own disruptive power that can sometimes become a polemic in life. The disruptive power refers to the strong influence of an issue in life and how great its impact is. The polemics in life are a special gift in terms of art because every issue that occurs can be turned into an idea by expressing it into paintings. Additionally, an artist’s sensitivity to what happens around them greatly influences the course of the creative process, and the disruptive power can be used as a benchmark in assessing and determining whether an issue is worthy to be raised in an artwork.
