2025, mixed media on paper
SUN.CONTEMPORARY is delighted to present Paper Thin, a group exhibition curated by Tripoli Patterson of Tripoli Gallery, New York, bringing together twenty-two artists in a dialogue centred on one of civilisation's most elemental materials: paper.
For Patterson, paper is the draftsman's medium: the place where ideas land first, unguarded. Unlike bronze or oil on canvas, it carries no weight of permanence or expense. It simply lets loose thoughts arrive, without interference. The works in this exhibition share that spirit. A small number of pieces in stone and tapestry also feature in the show, offering a counterpoint in weight and texture to the lightness that surrounds them.
The show is also a homecoming. Patterson spent formative years in Bali in the 1990s, and this return brings a quiet personal charge: works gathered over the course of a career, carried across the world, back to the place that first shaped him.
