NEIGHBOR

SALVITA DE CORTE AND ALEPH GEDDIS ARTIST PORTRAIT

Neighbor is a unique two-person exhibition featuring the works of American sculptor Aleph Geddis and Indonesian painter Salvita De Corte. The exhibition takes its title from how the two artists share a studio in Bali. Each works alone, in their own separate building within a shared compound in Dalung, where Geddis prototypes his carved geometric wooden sculptures, and De Corte paints large canvases with acrylics and indigo pigments. Their media and means of production are vastly different from each other, yet both explore the blurred space between the figurative and the abstract: Geddis reduces signifiers of the body to their most elemental forms, while De Corte allows emotion to overcome the identities of her subjects. Neighbor is the first time their work has been presented in dialogue outside of their studio.
